The craftsmen blend quartz stone powder, powdered glass, Multani Mitti (Fuller's Earth), borax and gum with water for preparing the dough for the pottery. The colour palette for the craft is limited to blue with hints of green from copper oxide and white. However, sometimes the artisans experiment with colours like yellow and brown.The touch of blue glaze on pottery is an imported technique introduced by Mongol artisans who fused Chinese glazing technology with Persian decorative crafts. This technique sailed east to India with the 14th-century Turkic conquest. Later, the Mughals commissioned blue pottery in India following their arrival to the subcontinent.
